This is a once in a lifetime chance to catch world record, catch and release, Lake Trout, Grayling, and Arctic Char! Only a limited number of people are allowed to fish here each year and we have just a few spots available for next year!
Great Bear Lake is located in Canada’s Northwest Territories, and is one of the largest lakes in the world with almost 1,700 miles of shoreline. It is located at the edge of the Arctic Circle, and therefore the landscape is very rugged. As the name suggests, you can spot grizzly bears around the lake, as well as caribou, moose, and muskox. This lake provides the perfect backdrop and clear waters for an exclusive opportunity to fish for Arctic Grayling and Lake Trout, and you can try out trolling, jigging, and fly fishing. This vast, so-called “freshwater sea” are the ideal conditions for those who love the outdoors, exploration, and fishing.
About the Lake: Great Bear Lake has been home to the indigenous Sahtu Dene people for thousands of years, and the area is now a designated national historic site since to preserve and celebrate their culture. The lake serves as an important resource to the few people who live in the area, and tourists can also enjoy the seclusion that allows for a great connection with the outdoors. Fishing is largely only possible for between 6-8 weeks, as the lake is almost entirely iced over between November and June. In the summer, when the lake is fishable, you can enjoy the long arctic days, and perhaps get a glimpse of the midnight sun.
About the Fishing: Fishing has been a longstanding practice at the lake for the Sahtu Dene people, and today, because the lake is a protected historical sight, fishing is reserved for the few brave anglers who are willing to venture this far north. The trip is worth it, however, because the fishing on Great Bear Lake is incredible! The humbly named Lake Trout is hardly humble at Great Bear Lake because these fish can grow to enormous sizes in the spacious lake. They are numerous and they tend to swim in the deepest, coldest parts of the lake. There is also the Arctic Grayling, and though there are fewer and they are smaller than the Lake Trout, these unique looking fish provide a great opportunity for fly fishing. Marked by their crown-like dorsal fin, catching one will provide the picture-perfect moment every angler dreams of.
Optional Add-On for $1,050: A fly-out excursion like no other! Catch world record char in this rugged and beautiful “oasis in the arctic”. As you peer out the window at the raging Tree River while enjoying the freshly baked dinner roll, alongside your turkey dinner, and knowing you are a mere handful of miles from the Arctic coast, you will feel as though you have a sense of heaven. The Tree River has been proclaimed by many guests as a life changing experience. There is something quite magical about the place and in addition to its majesty and beauty is the fact that it produces the largest Arctic Char in the world. The lodge and amenities are quite simple compared to the main lodge and this compliments the surroundings. Fishing is done from shore and both fly and spin fishing are successful. They have boats on the river to move fishers from place to place but the hiking opportunities to some pools are quite worth the effort.
